While I was home for Christmas, I picked up a new foundation routine. This past year my skin has undergone some crazy ass changes which I like to blame on hormones. Previously, I have always treated my skin type as sensitive and dry, but I have increasingly decided that I mainly have sensitive, combination skin since I tend to get that obnoxious shine on my T zone.
I did my research on youtube and makeupalley and decided that I was going to spring for something completely different.
I picked up Make Up For Ever’s Mat Velvet+ liquid foundation in shade 20. I was matched by a lovely lady in Sephora and I wore it around the rest of the day to make sure I liked the finish. The finish on this foundation is matte which makes it ideal for oily or combination skin. It also sheers out and builds well.
I am a huge fan of the packaging since it isnt wasteful and easy to distribute a smaller amount. A little of this product goes a long way. I think I use maybe two small pea sizes for my whole face. You get 30mL for $35. Thus far I am so happy with this foundation!!
I also picked up MAC’s Prep + Prime finishing powder from the Nordstrom MAC counter. My friend Carlene had purchased this and hated it on her skin so she sold it to me for $5 to try out. I became obsessed! It’s a beautiful transparent finishing powder that softens everything on your face and gives it this airbrushed look. It also helps keep my face matte without getting those weird flakey dry patches I would get with another kind of powder. The crowning jewel is that it keeps my foundation on so much longer!
I have always thought of this product as MAC’s version of the Make Up For Ever HD powder. However, the HD powder retails for $30 for 0.35 oz and Prep + Prime is $22 for 0.32 oz. Basically I just wanted to save $8 hahah. The MAC artist who sold me Prep + Prime was explaining to me you can use it alone on bare skin or even under your foundation. I think I will stick with the traditional use as a finishing/setting powder but its nice to know its such a versatile product!
